What do you bring to the table?

We were invited to have breakfast in the green room one day. Ms Tumahai had set
a table with lots of yummy food. But there was something we had to do. We had to choose
a word that represents what was special about us or someone we knew that was special to us. We then brought our conversations to the breakfast table and Ms Tumahai started filming us. This is our Manaiakalani Movie we hope you enjoy it.

Our last PENN movie for the year 2017

I have really enjoyed watching the students riding the bikes. Their confidence has escalated and I'm noticing confidence in the classroom and in their learning. One of my goals this year was to get all of my students riding bikes (no training wheels) and I'm pleased to say "we did it! "

Hyper Studio

We have been working in Hyper Studio with Mrs Lagitupu . She has been very patient in showing us how to copy and paste and also duplicate parts of our pictures to add to other slides in our stack. We created a PENN movie about friendships using our Hyper Studio creations. Below is our movie.

Matariki at the Museum.

Our Term 2 trip to the Museum was lots of fun.The focus was on Matariki. We were entertained by 2 lovely Whaea. They told us a story of the Ta Moko and we all got to have one painted on our faces for the day. We made a little clay pot just like the ones that were used by the Maori a long time ago to put the ink into. We had a look at some things in the Museum and got lost inside the Museum. It was lots of fun.

How do we make a kite that flies?

Room 26 and I have enjoyed this terms inquiry. Our inquiry question was 'How do we make a kite that flies? This was not easy for us because there were a number of problems we encountered. Such as to much rain, too much wind, materials were not strong enough and things broke easily. We made paper jet planes pinwheels and our own kites and we came to the conclusion that all the things we wanted to fly needed wind, speed, balance, lift and air. On one fine day we decided to take the $2 shop kites out and they flew well.  I visited Takaparawhau (Bastion Point) for the annual Matariki Kite Day there were some amazing kites.  This is a short film of what we got up too.

Author Melinda Szymanik

Room 26 wrote about author Melinda Szymanik's visit.

This morning Melinda the author came to read to us. It was a pretty scary story and it was called Were-nana. In that story it was pretty cool Steller Rosie's brother said stuff that is not true.Stella Rose got scared but when nana took off her coat she was lovely.

Minus 5 Mondays

Minus 5 Mondays is all about healthy lunches and in Room 26 today I was so happy to see so many students with healthy options in their lunch boxes.

We took a photo of some things that we do not bring to school.

Orange chips and coloured drinks are a NO NO!

Sandwiches, fruit, yoghurt, nuts and raisins. Remember to bring a water bottle to school everyday.

Team 2 2017

This is the new Team 2.

This morning we met in Room 24 for our team 2 assembly we said our school pray and sang a waiata. Miss Nalder talked about lots of things such as Parent/teacher meeting this Wednesday, don't forget we finish school at 12.30. Minus 5 Mondays, where we bring a sugar free lunch (a healthy lunch) to school. If you bring a sugar free lunch on Mondays your name will go into a draw for a prize.

Ready Set Go!

We had our first Kiwi Sports session this morning. Our focus this morning was balancing. Coach Allen had us balancing on 1 leg, 2 hands 1 leg, 1 hand 1 leg it was so funny and we all found out the balancing is really hard to do. We balanced bean bags on our heads and had relay races, it was so much.

Inquiry 2017

Oh No !

This is what we saw when we came back from swimming the other day.

The water was green and it smelt very bad. There was rubbish in the water, cans, bottles
plastic bags.
What can we do?

Swimming 2017

Our first swimming lesson at the Glen Innes Pools.

On Thursdays afternoon we walked down to the pools. The students were so excited
about their first swimming lesson. I was so impressed with the students and how confident they are in the water. We have 3 instructors keen and ready to take on Room 26.

Duffy Show

This morning we went to the hall to watch the Duffy Show.

Moana the Sea

Duffy and SuperGlobal Girl

Today we had the privilege of being entertained by the Duffy Theatre. As Duffy and Super Global Girl traveled through countries to fight climate change the message was very similar to our inquiry of Te Taiao o Tāmaki. In Room 26 we are helping fight global change by keeping our environment clean by picking up rubbish at our school.

Chip Sandwiches

This morning we made chip sandwiches.

Ms Tumahai told us that her favourite sandwich is marmite and chip. Some of us have not had that before so Ms Tumahai bought some bread, marmite and chips so we could all try it. We made our own sandwich and sat on the deck and ate it. Some of us thought it was yummy and nice.

We drew pictures of our marmite and chip sandwiches on our ipads.

Well Done Te Ao

This weeks Duffy Award went to Te Ao.

Well done Te Ao you have had a great start to the year keep up the good work.
